Background on my canine best friend, and current situation.
HI!
I am the owner of a stupid, silly, loving, swimming, fetching, smart, stubborn, barking, growling, spoiled dog named Ellie. She Is 2 years old and 4 months, born close to my birthday so I switched it to that because I didn’t have a for sure date. Cool huh?
Up until 5/11 life was pretty good with ellie. I had the usual complaints (you bark too much, stop growling, stop being possessive, stop submissive peeing, stop pacing and annoying me!). She loved to swim, LAY in puddles.. MUDDY ones to my dismay… she constantly dropped balls in my lap until i took them away for special days, and she is a huge mama’s girl. Her favorite foods are apples, carrots, cheese and ice. When a ball rolls next to a pile of her poop, she will NOT pick it up. She will try to use her paw to roll it away from it, silly huh?
Anyway. 5/11 was a normal day, took my dog and sister to the park (to drive around and see animals) and then to the grocery store to get watermelon and brownies, and hersheys bars for my mom. Pull in the driveway, grab the bag, get out, and the guy i live with and his girlfriend walked across the street, no biggie, ellie never cares too much, I think. I open her door, and BOOM faster than I could blink I turn to yell @ her and smack, I watched a tan van hit her. She made this heartbreaking sound all the way back to me, jumped back through the open door in the car and laid down. Meanwhile, the lady driving the van pulled further down the road to the side. She had a bumper barely hanging on (or the underside of one), and a broken windshield wiper fluid container. I got a 114 dollar fine for “Dog at Large” (even though she ran without me being able to contain her), and a 900 dollar bill from the hospitalization and treatment of my baby. She sustained a SEVERELY fractured left femur, collapsed lung, internal bleeding, and liver/spleen damage (with one liver enzyme being really high). As well as a nasty cut on her right front leg, and 2 scrapes, as well as some not so good looking owies on her lip. She came hom @ 4pm the next day 5/12 because of lack of funding, they couldn’t keep her anymore. She has been on strict cage rest, only going out to pee, her bleeding has stopped (as far as I know), she HAD 2 staples on her owie on her front leg but she took them out so I used butterfly bandaids, she has a compression cast on her leg to prevent moving around, etc. She is on metcam for pain/inflammation, and doxycycline for possible infection. She has been doing superbly well, back to her normal self for the most part, bark and growl, peeing and all! Today, I finally had the money to get her an x-ray of her leg (173$!), which showed a very bad fracture, lots of peices, split like if you broke a pencil in half. Not good news. The vet told me that since I have money issues, and the healing for the plate/screws would be 3 months, and then some recheck appointments, plus high risk of infection, etc that It would be best to amputate. I felt relieved. We had an answer, and something to finally do, so I could de-stress and we could begin to recover, together. Her amputation (900$) is scheduled for tomorrow @ 1 pm, I bring her in at 11am. My poor puppy. I’m nervous about the anesthesia, and how will she run, walk, pee, poop, swim?! I’m hoping she’ll be the normal dog I knew, and that I made the right decision to save her life which is so valuable to me. I will update this tomorrow, and more after her surgery. She has to stay the night @ the vets, and if all goes well 10 days recovery, and stitches will come out and we can move on.
P.S if you want to donate, pay by paypal using my email stormygirl922@hotmail.com, we would appreciate it! We have fundraised 620 dollars so far. Now minus 173 from her x-ray.

Yeah very tragic. I think more so for me than her even! I’m glad I found this site, i was lost. I will keep you posted, right now she’s lying in the crate waiting for me to get up and take her potty. 🙂

Don’t worry about normal functions like potty and stuff she will figure a way thats good for her to go, although if she is unsure of balance she may need your encouraging. All of the things she loves she will be able to do once she recovers!

Thats good! I wonder if she will be able to run as fast, she was really speedy before for a 65 pound dog!
