Still struggling with some 3-legged things.

So, because it’s winter and I hate winter, it’s cold! Ellie gets really really bored.. and annoying… really…really… annoying…so I took her to the dog park, we went in the little dog enclosed area because no one was in there (Ellie is iffy about other dogs, if they don’t bug her, and don’t chase her, she’ll be fine, but if they do, she snaps back at them [which is understandable] and if theres another alpha female there, ellie 99% of the time wont start a fight, but she will fight if someone else starts one with her, and she gets growly and snappy at other dogs when she has a toy, ya.. so we play alone, she doesn’t play with other dogs anyway.) and we played for probably an hour or so, mostly throwing the ball and her trudging thru the snow at top speed, and then some snow angel making, and digging while laying down in the snow. But when we get home, we relax for a bit… and then I notice Ellie can’t fully stand up. For the rest of the night it is like this, she can’t go much of anywhere, I put her on the foot stool to see if a pillow type thing would help, but it didn’t, and eventually she wanted to go to bed so I walked to her door and expected her to follow me, but i look, and shes in the living room, and im like ‘come on girly’, and she hobbles to the kitchen and can’t go any further because her leg wont work, so I pick her back end up and we walk like that to her room, she gets almost there so I let her go and she drags her butt into her kennel. Why does this happen? It’s fine this morning, and always is. I do notice that when she lays down on the leg too long on a hard surface like our carpet, or the kitchen floor, or the patio concrete, the same thing happens but for a shorter time, like 10-15 minutes. Sometimes less. Anyone else have this happen to them? I kind of know why it happens, in a way, but not at the same time. It makes me so sad, but she doesn’t even notice I swear!

We never experienced anything quite like this. Maybe she is getting a pinched nerve? I really don’t know. If you post a question in the forums you will get more people seeing your query and maybe one of the vets will also chime in.

It doesn’t seem like a pinched nerve too much, like it does but it doesn’t. From laying on the leg, could be that, but not from playing fetch and then it happening all evening, because it was only running. So perplexing. andI don’t know how to post on the forum. =\

Hmmmm. To me it sounds like a little too much activity. How long does she play hard? For most Tripawds, no more than 15 minutes of play at a time should be allowed, they really need to not overdo things. Anytime a dog sits down on a walk or refuses to get up, it’s a clear sign that they’re in pain and need to take it easy. I would cut back on her activity to see if this helps.

Haven’t you posted in the Forums before? I thought you had. Go ahead an just play around with them, I’ll bet you’ll figure it out. Post in ‘Hopping Around” and see if it works.

We were there for an hour, but it’s not constant playing, a lot of it was her just rolling around in the snow, or digging (while laying down). Usually if we walk more than 2 miles she’ll lay down, but usually she’s fine. Also, for this, she gets up and tries to do things normal, it’s just like her leg is too weak from playing, and then sleeping, to get up for a while. Usually I massage it, and most of the time that helps some. We never go play much, but she gets bored, wont settle for things that AREN’T ball chasing, they’re not good enough, she has 100 toys and bones, and could roll around in the yard but she wants me to play, also this is the first time we’ve went out and played in a month atLEAST. Winters been pretty harsh here, and icy (which cuts her paws).

I probably have posted before but I don’t come on here often and I don’t even know where to go to post anymore, or how.
